Trauma Education (Day 1-4) with Dr Leah Giarratano International online on-demand to commence when your printed materials are delivered (5-10 working days). The content is applicable to both adult and adolescent populations. The four-day program attracts 30 or 42 trauma-focused professional development hours/credits (or PD, CPD, CPE, CE Hours/Credits).

This engaging self-paced online/home study program is intended for all mental health professionals, globally. Counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, general medical practitioners, mental health nurses, and social workers are all welcome to attend. The program can be completed in your own time over four months with printed copies of your program materials mailed to you by international express post before access is provided. Please note that our printed materials are not available electronically.

There is a difference in the best-practice treatment for PTSD (Day 1-2) vs Complex PTSD (Day 3-4). This program synthesises practical approaches from several modalities that are publishing positive outcomes for these clients and presents them using actual cases that will underpin your clinical practice in traumatology. The program will explain when exposure-based interventions are indicated and appropriate, and when other therapeutic needs must be addressed first, and how to meet these needs.

Day 1-2 is dedicated to treating PTSD clients utilising a cognitive behavioural approach. Day 3-4 is dedicated to the treatment of Complex PTSD (survivors of child abuse and neglect/ developmental trauma/prolonged interpersonal trauma) utilising the phase-based approach and incorporating current experiential techniques showing promising results with this population; drawn from Emotion Focused Therapy for trauma, Metacognitive Therapy, Schema Therapy, Attachment pathology treatment, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Following Day 4 is an optional Trauma Case Study activity (included in your fee) and its purpose is to apply the skills presented in your Day 1-4 training to real cases and improve your ability to formulate a treatment plan with trauma clients.

Included in your fee is the option to participate in one of our scheduled Day 1-4 livestreams during your access period (or the next livestream in your time zone). You can access our livestream from anywhere using a tablet, laptop or desktop and you need a constant internet speed of at least 15Mbps for 8 hours per day. A laptop with a built-in microphone and camera is highly recommended. Leah Giarratano will present the livestream from her studio and you will be able to participate via text, audio and/or camera. Each livestream session will be between 1.5 and 2 hours in duration with three 15-30 minute breaks during the day (for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea).

30 or 42 CE Credits available to members of the American Psychological Association dependent upon completion requirements. Partial APA CE Credits are not awarded for partial completion. Leah Giarratano is a registered Australian doctoral-level clinical psychologist with vast clinical and teaching expertise in traumatology, working in this area in since 1995 across many trauma populations and utilising several treatment modalities. She is the author of seven books covering the assessment and treatment of psychological trauma and the application of CBT. Her Treating PTSD program has been offered to mental health professionals since 1996 and her Treating Complex Trauma program has been offered since 2013.
